What experiences in life helped you grow the most?
Filler XVI
Growth often comes from adversity, and for me, growing up poor was one of the most significant influences on my personal development. Growing up with a drug addicted parent helped me stay away from that lifestyle after seeing the results of that at a very young age. Learning to live with little taught me humility—how to appreciate the smallest things and recognize the value in what I already have rather than constantly longing for more.
Every struggle I faced was a life test, shaping my strength and resilience. There were moments when I wondered why things had to be so difficult with no one around me to help me through it, but that was a personal decision for myself because I did not want to be burden to those who I cared about, but looking back, I see that those hardships built a foundation of perseverance. I learned to adapt, to keep going even when the odds felt stacked against me, and to trust that no challenge is insurmountable.
Having less also meant learning how to make the most of what I did have. Whether it was stretching a meal, finding joy in simple pleasures, or understanding that wealth isn’t just about money but about relationships, experiences, and personal growth—I gained a perspective that many take a lifetime to learn and as most recently in the last couple of years.
This reflection serves as a reminder that every challenge is an opportunity in disguise. Struggles are not just obstacles; they are lessons, preparing us for something greater. So, what in life has helped you grow the most?
