A Reflection on a Nation Torn

When I started this blog, I swore I would keep away from subjects such as politics and religion. I am not deeply involved in those subjects, but I pay attention enough to know what’s going on in the world, I just choose not to take a side in that world because it can get very ugly. I wanted to give people a clean breath of fresh air from all the toxicity in the media and the polarization of the United States between the two parties just bickering back and forth. Well, with the events that happened yesterday with the attempted assassination of former President Trump, whether you love him or hate him, it affects all of us as a county and it gives this country a bad name. Let me be clear, I am not a democrat or a republican. I never have been. I believe that defeats the purpose of being united and I wanted to be a neutral opinion to the majority of people and the current issues we face. If I have to consider myself anything politically it would be an independent, I like to look at both sides of the argument and decided the road I am going to take based on the information of that issue. I was taught to analyze and interpret things like this with critical thinking, asking the right questions to understand things more. Having a subjective non-bias viewpoint and not wanting to rip someone else’s head off for having an opposing outlook. That is not what I was taught in school, and I went to a continuation school, but I was blessed with some fantastic teachers who taught me to question everything subjectively and listen to other points of view which is something that our country has forgotten.

I am not a fan of Donald Trump. I am not a fan of Biden. I was not even a fan of Trump before he was president because he came off as very arrogant in my view. Much like every other president in history he has said some things I agree with, and he has said things I disagree with but overall, as a person, I don’t like the man, that being said, I don’t wish any harm to him, and whether you love him or hate him, this affects everyone as a whole, as a nation and we look like animals to other countries. America is a laughingstock to every other county that has existed for centuries before us. This situation in consolidation with that deep polarization of the political system is just going to get worse if people don’t see the bigger picture in all this. Its situations like this one where the people need to see others as Americas. Not democrats, not republicans, not liberals and not fucking conservatives. Just as fellow Americans, nothing more. Social media and the news are going to play a big role in this direction. When I came home yesterday from having a couple of beers with my best friend, my Instagram was blowing up with these headlines. When I leave the house, I don’t take social media with me. I leave those apps on a different device I leave home because I believe we need to be more grounded as people in the real world and in this world with all this technology and remember that this technology is only a tool. We can’t become the technologies tools.

At this point this situation can go only go 2 ways:

  1. We come together as people. As Americans, get rid of the social and political division. Get rid of the social and political labels that divide us and start treating each other like human beings. Not judging people by who they vote for or choose to support, how they think and get to know people by an individual basis. Like we are supposed to do in the first place. I have many friends with different opposing views to mine, but I don’t let that get in the way of our friendships and having a good time because there are more things going on in the world than just politics.
  2. This is the scenario where it’s going to get scary. The division gets deeper and deeper. Social media influencers keep throwing gasoline on that fire because they damn well know that it is going to get views, which is already happening sad to say. Die-hard Trump supporters look up to him as being more of a badass and the worship for the man gets deeper to the point where it’s another Jonestown situation. The political violence will continue to escalate and people who are just trying to live their day to day lives start to live in fear because that is what the media keeps reporting every day. Civil war will once again happen for no reason over a false prophet that never cared about you or had any intention on saving you.

My conclusion in all this is, if former President Trump had any sense whatsoever, he would influence his supporters not to take matters into their own hands but as history shows with this man, he has a history of provoking political violence and no matter who you are, it is wrong. In my opinion is what makes Trump dangerous as a leader is that he reacts on emotion and not logic. He’s just going with the flow and seeing what shit sticks to the wall and his supporters drink the Kool-Aid without any hesitation. That is when people become reckless and that is when innocent are going to get hurt in the name of a false prophet. My hope is that this situation doesn’t escalate to scenario . This is a situation where people need to be smart and not react impulsively and look at the bigger picture and move forward in all this because we have too many people that are in power that create more problems rather than solutions and political violence is never the solution, that will just create another civil war.

This is my one and only opinion on this issue. I refuse to put any more fuel on this fire. My hope is that people take the higher road on this issue because we need to go a different direction at this point. If not, a lot of good and hard-working people who are just trying to live their lives are going to get hurt.
