Embracing Life's Impermanence, One Reflection at a Time
Tuesday Morning Playlist – 4/9/24
I started doing this last year for the music junkies like myself. Just something fun to post and maybe open some doors for people who are looking for music that they have not heard of yet and are looking for stuff beneath the surface. I usually do these on a Monday and Fridays, but Tuesday is just as good as any other day.
I know that a lot of us commute to work in the morning, and one thing that gets me out of that frustration to reckless and stupid drivers during commute hours is music. So post the first 10 songs that come up in your Playlist and no skipping! Even if you feel embarrassed. Fuck it, do it anyway. We all have our guilty pleasures when it comes to music. For example, I dig Limp Bizkits Chocolate Starfish record, and if you know what that is, then you know the definition of a guilty pleasure. Much like watching a b-rated horror movie that is so bad, it’s good. So don’t be embarrassed about what comes up as your first 10. Here are my first 10 with a brief description of how I came across it and a short opinion. Well, enough rambling from me.
Fuck it, Let’s go!
I found out about this band on Octane. With the theme of the music they sound like they took a page out of Rage Against the Machine’s book when it came to Rap Metal. If your a Rage fan I think you’ll dig Fever 333Demented Are Go is band my friends told me about when they were obsessed with Pshychobilly at the time. Demented Are Go are definitely one of those hidden treasures that you find beneath the surface.I love movie scores and soundtracks and I love jazz too. This movie took place in New Work in the 1950’s. It was passion project written and directed by Edward Norton as a tribute to the detective noir type of films. With a film like this you have to have a good Jazz soundtrack. After watching the film, which I thought was brilliant by the way. I got into the soundtracks. When I’m at home just relaxing or trying to to focus on something I throw this or something similar to. There is just something about those Jazz horns that just makes you feel good. Awesome soundtrack and film. Definitely a must see movie.Everyone knows who Disturbed is just by hearing Dave Draimans signature vocals. This song was a come back for them after a hiatus. I really dug it and you can tell they put the work in. I love the video too. This in my opinion is overplayed as much as I love the chili peppers. They have a whole archive of jams that could have been way bigger as singles but I’ll give props where it’s do.Soundtrack to one of the greatest action movies, in my opinion. This soundtrack had a lot of tracks from a Mexican Blues Rock band called Tito and Tarantula. Great band! They are a recurring band in a few of the directors’ movies. Most commonly know in the band in the strip club in From Dusk Till Dawn. This is one of my favorite tracks from the band, and it fits with this killer flick. This was a hidden gem on this record. The metal bands that came out in the early 2000s were a great era. I know the “nu-metal” label catches a lot of shit but it’s all metal to me. The subgenres become nauseating. Mudvayne was definitely one of the greats. I just wish they would get back in the studio again, but sometimes less is more.Social Distortion is one of my top favorite bands. Although I think this song is a bit over played by man movies and TV shows, it’s still a great track. It was a beginning point to new fans who became more familiar with Social D’s music. It’s a good starting point.Murderous was a side project from Joey Jordison, who collaborated with a solo horror-punk artist named Wednesday 13. Joey, the drummer from Slipknot, when Slipknot took a break after the Iowa record cycle back in 2002. Murderdolls had released 2 records in 20 years. This was the second. It was a horror-metal theme type of glam band, but the riffs were heavy and fast. Lyrics were heavily 80s horror based. Definitely, a lot of Motley Crue inspired music with these guys.(hed) p.e. is band out of Southern California. They were heavily influenced by bands like Suicidal Tendencies during the Skate Punk scene and the hip hop elements of the 90s. The front man Jared described the music as G-Punk. Which is Gangsta Punk Rock. It’s a blend that the metal and hip hop guys can both groove on. This song was a cover, and anyone who knows their music knows it was originally a Buffalo Springfield song. I really liked it. It had a good twist to it. The track had audio clips from speeches from JFK’s inauguration and speeches, which gave the song an interesting twist and perspective. Very thought provoking I thought.
