R.I.P. Critical Thinking?

This post I wrote, almost got me banned on Instagram because someone did not agree with it. So much for free speech and thought, huh?

At this point in time, I believe humanity has abused the privilege and convenance of mass media to brainwash people to pick one side or the other. It’s like neutral ground doesn’t exist anymore, especially on the internet. I believe if someone wants to make a critical conclusion, hear out both sides of the debate, and decide FOR YOURSELF what is the best resolution. Having to pick one side or the other is adding more sheep to the heard, and I don’t agree with that. Goes against everything my teachers taught me in school. Back when the school system didn’t “close the gap,” as they say, just to pass students and get them out of school. My mother is a teacher and she can tell you all the horror stories about the school system. How political it can be, not putting the students first and not providing the teachers what they need to do their jobs. She’s writing a book about the experience, and I can’t wait to read it and for her to share her story.

Critical thinking is important to every day life. Prevents us from making impulsive decisions when later someone reaps that consequence. This is the same consequence when you believe everything you read on the internet. I like to believe that critical thinking is a form of a Bullshit Filter. If you have a feeling in your gut that something doesn’t seem right and defies common sense and logic, that means the bullshit filter is probably working! If you’re not sure about something, seek a second opinion from someone who has more experience than you do. For example, if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

Here’s a secret about life that a lot of people seem to forget. It’s okay to admit to know you don’t know things. It’s okay to admit to ask someone of more experience to help you with complex thought and reasoning that will prevent you from making impulsive decisions that can potentially be damaging for the long term. It’s okay to admit that you are wrong. Even if you feel it goes against your beliefs, but that should give you more to consider at a later time. I always found it better to have ideas rather than beliefs because it keeps your mind open to new ideas and possibilities. Just remember, run it through the Bullshit Filter. I’m not always right, nor will I ever will be, but I am always willing to learn something new to broaden my horizons while I go through these strange days we have been living in. We need to educate more, not belittle or cancel, and that is a whole different subject that I will be talking about soon.

That’s it! Thanks for reading. End of transmission.

Have a good week, readers.
