Welcome to my world. I started this blog as a creative outlet for fun, so let’s see where it takes me. I have a passion for writing. I’m just one of those people who speak better in the written word vs. in the real world, talking to someone face to face. What to expect from this blog is what I like to call, expect the unexpected because I’ll be writing about different subjects and categories but for the most part I’ll be writing about some personal stories, opinions about some of the serious issues going on in the world. I really want to emphasize the word “opinion” in these strange days we live in now. So don’t take my opinions for fact because we all have a different outlook on things, and I’m not always right about what I talk about. I prefer to educate rather than belittle. We need more of that in this world. Other than that I’ll be writing about events I’ve attended, music, movie and gaming reviews, and technology. Maybe some short stories here and there are fictional, of course. The two things I refuse to discuss are politics and religion. I have my beliefs and opinions about those subjects, but in today’s world, I prefer to keep all that to myself. I remain neutral when it comes to those subjects because I don’t believe in grouping people together over political or religious beliefs because I believe in individuality. I want to bring people together. Not separate them.
I decided to call this blog The Reaper’s Notebook for a few reasons. First, since I was a kid I had a fascination with the Grim Reaper after watching Bill &Ted’s Bogus Journey although in the movie he’s represented as a bit of a goofball in that movie, I knew at that age what The Grim Reaper represented, and to be honest he was the best character in the movie. As I got older in school, and I was thinking about this just the other day after having a conversation with a friend of mine while I was in Vegas last weekend so I thought this was a bit ironic. You know that kid in class that was always in the back of the class, with his hood on, headphones in, and just a quiet guy just doodling on his school folders and notebooks? I was that kid, so it made sense when my friend brought that up. I thought it was pretty funny. Lastly, a couple of years ago, I had a boss who liked to give his workers handles for his crew. Coincidentally, I ended up with The Reaper mostly because I was quiet and I just did my job. Plain and simple. I know that the last part was not very interesting, I realize.

When it comes to my writing style, I like to give things a Tarantino approach. No, I don’t mean in a gratuitous violent type of writing. What I mean by that is a very detailed and very descriptive adaptation of what I am talking about. I use Quentin Tarantino as an example because I look at the detailed writing in the dialog between characters in his films. How detailed the atmosphere is, for example, Django Unchained or even in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. The detailed atmosphere in those films is not only historically correct but also makes someone imagine that those atmospheres really still exist through the films. Just as something small as Dr. Schultz in Django Unchained, pouring himself a beer from the bar after the bartender runs away, just makes the whole story come together like you are actually living in it, and that’s what writing is all about. So, that’s what I mean by a Tarantino writing style.
Anyway, thanks for reading and for stopping by and taking the time to read my introduction. The goal is to post a couple of times a week if not once a week, and I look forward to feedback, but please let your criticism be constructive. I’m always looking for tips to improve.
Thanks for reading!
